Let’s be honest: over-the-counter cocoa butter, "bio-oils," and expensive stretch mark creams do absolutely nothing once a stretch mark has formed. This is because a stretch mark is not a surface pigment issue; it is a deep, structural tear in the collagen matrix of the dermis (the middle layer of the skin). To improve a stretch mark, you cannot just rub a cream on the surface. You must mechanically stimulate the deep skin to produce new collagen and literally "sew" the tear back together from the inside out. We use advanced clinical procedures like Microneedling and PRP to achieve this structural remodeling.

The Science of a Dermal Tear

Stretch marks (Striae) occur when the skin is stretched so rapidly that the connective fibers (collagen and elastin) snap.

Red vs. White Stretch Marks

Understanding the age of your stretch marks determines how successful treatment will be:

  • Striae Rubra (Red/Purple): These are newly formed stretch marks. The red color is caused by active inflammation and visible blood vessels attempting to heal the tear. This is the golden window for treatment, where we can achieve up to 80% clearance.
  • Striae Alba (White/Silver): These are older, mature stretch marks. The inflammation has died down, and what remains is a pale, indented scar. They are much harder to treat, but we can significantly improve their texture and narrow their width.

Common Triggers

  • Pregnancy (especially in the third trimester).
  • Rapid weight gain or extreme bodybuilding/muscle growth.
  • Puberty growth spurts (often seen on the lower back or knees).
  • Prolonged use of oral or topical corticosteroids (which weaken the skin).

Clinical Remodeling Protocols

We do not use lasers for stretch mark removal, as they carry a high risk of hyperpigmentation in Indian skin types. Instead, we use highly effective physical induction techniques to force the skin to rebuild itself safely.

Treatment Method How It Works Best For
Medical Microneedling (Dermapen) Creates thousands of microscopic, controlled injuries in the stretch mark. This tricks the body into launching a massive wound-healing response, rushing fresh collagen and elastin to the area to fill in the indented scar. Improving the texture and depth of white stretch marks.
Microneedling with PRP We combine microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (derived from your own blood). The microneedles push the concentrated growth factors deep into the dermis, hyper-accelerating the collagen repair process. Highly recommended for both red and white stretch marks.
Prescription Retinoids Topical Tretinoin (Vitamin A) forces rapid skin cell turnover and stimulates surface collagen. Used nightly at home between clinical sessions. Early (red) stretch marks. (Note: Not safe during pregnancy).
Doctor Advice

Dr. Manali's Advice

"I always set realistic expectations with my patients: No technology on earth can 100% erase an old, white stretch mark. However, with a dedicated series of Microneedling and PRP sessions, we can beautifully blend the texture, raise the indented scars so they are flat, and reduce their width so they are barely noticeable. The sooner you seek treatment while the marks are still red, the vastly better your results will be."

Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding stretch mark treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

Because building new collagen takes time, we typically recommend 4 to 6 sessions of Microneedling/PRP, spaced 4 weeks apart. You will see the texture improve gradually after the second session.

Does Microneedling on the body hurt?

We apply a very strong medical-grade numbing cream to the area for 45 minutes before the procedure. You will feel a vibrating sensation and mild pressure, but very little to no pain.

Can I treat pregnancy stretch marks while breastfeeding?

Yes, Microneedling and PRP are 100% safe while breastfeeding because we are not using any chemical drugs—we are simply using mechanical stimulation and your own blood's growth factors. However, we cannot prescribe Retinoid creams during this time.
